Orient Express

Last Thursday me and the girls - and Will - (from left clockwise to right: Zahra, Abi, Helen, me and Amy - Will took the photo) made a trip to the Brookes Restaurant to the Orient Express themed night.
The menu was lovely, the whole thing was themed to some of the popular Orient Express stops and every time a new course was going to be served a man dressed as a train conductor came out and blew a whistle for every stop.  Here was the menu from the night:
Winchester - A peppery watercress soup with cream and nutmeg
Exmouth - Pan-fried crab cake with dressed leaves
Gloucester - Rack of lamb with a herb crust, served on a mint jus
OR
Field mushroom, spinach and stilton Wellington served with a wild mushroom sauce.
York - Rhubarb crumble served with stem ginger ice-cream and orange syrup.

Our friend Rachel was a chef for the night as part of her course which she would be graded on, to be honest I would give her and the team a 1:1!  It was very classy, very lovely and very tasty!
If anyone around the Oxford area gets a chance to visit the Brookes Restaurant for one of these events please do go because they are only on once and that is it.  Lots of students do these sort of nights for their degree, the menu is much more creative than a standard chain restaurant selection; it gives the students a chance to practice and it gives you the chance as a customer to relax and enjoy the lovely food you will be served.
